Our Namesake

David Lyle Blanchard epitomizes the very essence of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a hometown boy who answered the call of his country in time of armed conflict, serving with the 8th Howitzer Battalion in Vietnam from August 1970 until July 1971

He returned from Vietnam to raise his family and serve his community. He dedicated himself to his profession, to his ranch, and to his family. He was an active member of Corning VFW Post 4218 for 38 years and instrumental in creating what is now the Corning Veterans’ Honor Guard.

David loved life, he loved his family, he loved his community, and he loved serving and honoring other veterans. David was only 62 when he passed away from Wegener’s granulomatosis on September 26, 2008. Corning VFW Post 4218 was officially rechartered and dedicated as David L. Blanchard VFW Post 4218 on Memorial Day, May 30, 2018.
